Reid tweet: Must 'scale back' Medicaid spending in Baucus bill
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said that state Medicaid spending must reduced under Sen. Max Baucus' (D-Mont.) healthcare reform bill released today.
Reid took to Twitter to announce his opposition to the provision just after the Senate Finance Committee chairman concluded a press conference regarding the legislation.
Baucus' bill broadens eligibility for Medicaid, the government's existing healthcare program for low income citizens, but states would likely shoulder a greater portion of the cost in providing expanded coverage.
Reid tweeted:
Finance’s bill is a good starting pt but has 2 be good for NV before taking 2 the floor. We have 2 scale back state Medicaid spending rqmt
Markup of the Finance Committee's bill is scheduled to begin next Tuesday.
