Reid disappointed in GOP party-line stance on resolution honoring Hispanic media
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday criticized Senate Republicans for opposing a resolution designating this week as "National Hispanic Media Week."
Huffington Post's Sam Stein reports today that Reid's office had been searching for Republican co-sponsors for the resolution this week, but none supported it.
Reid tweeted:
I’m disappointed that no Republicans are co-sponsors of a resolution designating this wk as “Natl Hispanic Media Week” http://bit.ly/Xa1IR
Stein attributes the lack of Republican support to strained relations between the GOP and the Hispanic community over issues such as immigration reform.
But House Republicans this week have indicated opposition to such uncontroversial measures as time-wasters in the face of economic troubles and major legislation such as healthcare reform. Senate Republicans could have opposed the measure for the same reason.
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), for example, blasted Democratic colleagues for taking up a resolution honoring the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius.
