Christie establishes official Twitter feed
After dedicating much effort on Twitter during the campaign Governor-elect Chris Christie (R-N.J.) has established an official Twitter for his new office.
Christie will now tweet under the handle @GovChristie. The account currently has 70 followers. Christie's old account, @ChristieforNJ has 5,045 followers. The new account made its first tweet today, sharing a link to the governor's transition site.
It is unclear if Christie will tweet personally while in office or if staff will handle the duties.
Florida-based Republican new media consultant Jordan Raynor said that Christie was making a mistake by creating an entirely new account instead of changing the name of his old one.
He tweeted:
Why don't you just change your Twitter ID and keep your same followers? RT @ChristieforNJ: Keep updated with the Governor-Elect @GovChristie
GOP new media strategist David All criticized former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) for engineering a similar Twitter transition after she left office. Palin created a new Twitter account @SarahPalinUSA to replace her old account @AkGovSarahPalin, which has over 153,000 followers. @SarahPalinUSA has over 18,000 followers but has not tweeted yet.
