Brown: Health vote 'most impt I ever cast'
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) on Sunday called his aye vote Saturday night's motion to proceed on healthcare reform the "most impt I ever cast' alongside his vote against the Iraq War in 2002.
The motion, which passed by a vote of 60-39, allowed the Senate to move forward with formal debate on its healthcare bill.
Brown took to Twitter once he returned to Cleveland from Washington, D.C. this afternoon. Brown appeared on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning:
Just back to cleve after vote last night and interview on sunday CNN. Health vote and vote agst Iraq war in 02 most impt I ever cast Sherrod
And last night's vote would never have happened without activists like you. Thank you. Thank you. You made history. Sherrod
Brown, who is a noted liberal, voted against the Iraq War when he was a member of the House of Representatives. Brown defeated Republican Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) in 2006 and joined the Senate in 2007.
Brown's Ohio counterpart, Sen. George Voinovich (R) was the only senator not to vote on Saturday's procedural motion.
