Cornyn escapes 'snowpocalypse'
One senator from a warm-weather state was sure glad he got out of D.C. before a snowstorm hit the region on Friday.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) tweeted that he has escaped D.C.:
Just escaped a giant snow storm in DC
Lawmakers have been fleeing D.C. since yesterday. A storm is expected to dump 16-24 inches of snow on the greater Washington area.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) adjourned the Senate yesterday afternoon in order to allow senators enough time to leave the city.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also called off his daily briefing because of the storm. He held an informal gaggle with reporters instead.
On the other hand, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) tweeted that his office will remain open, though it's not clear if he will remain in town:
Despite winter storm, Sen Nelson's Washington office plans to remain open. Nebraska offices are open as usual: http://bit.ly/ajCNX3
