McCain applauds House GOP earmark ban
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took to Twitter Thursday to cheer House Republicans for declaring a moratorium on earmarks.
McCain has long been an opponent of so-called "pork barrel" spending. He tweeted:
I applaud @GOPLeader for calling for a full moratorium on all earmarks in the House http://tinyurl.com/ylg52cq
The House Appropriations Committee's decision to bar for-profit earmarks was not met with as much enthusiasm from their Senate colleagues.
Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) slammed the plan, calling it "quizzical" and unfair for assuming that for-profit companies would engage in corruption for earmarks while non-profits would not.
