Gibbs: I will use Twitter more often to break news
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday that he will use the microblogging service Twitter to break news more often.
His comments came on the heels of an announcement Gibbs made this morning on Twitter that President Barack Obama had pushed back his trip to Asia to finish work on healthcare reform legislation. The White House did not send out a traditional e-mail press release about the postponement.
"Twitter is a quick medium to get information out and we'll probably use it more often," he said.
Gibbs joined Twitter last month and tweets under the handle @PressSec. Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton also tweets under the name @billburton44 as does New Media Director Macon Phillips (@macon44).
Gibbs has not always been apprised of Twitter. He claimed last year that the site was blocked on White House computers. Other White House officials later said that it was available on some computers and access was being expanded.
