President Obama remains the most popular world leader on Twitter, according to a new report released this week.
The number of world leaders who are on Twitter almost doubled in 2012, according to the report from new-media consulting firm Digital Daya.

While some new members of Congress have yet to switch over from campaign accounts to official accounts, many turned to Twitter to express themselves on their first day in office.

Many Democrats on Wednesday were content to let Republicans take center stage in criticizing their own party over disaster relief. Rep. Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) blasted Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for adjourning the House without a vote on legislation providing relief to the states hit by Hurricane Sandy in October. Their stance earned support from Democrats in the House and Senate on Twitter.

Many Twitter users spent the beginning of the new year concerned that the country would fall over the "fiscal cliff," according to new data released by the social network on Wednesday. Twitter said 1.4 million tweets mentioning "fiscal cliff" or the hashtag #fiscalcliff were sent in the last 30 days, with about one-third of that total sent in the last week alone.
