Broun is first lawmaker to tweet on SCOTUS

By Michael O'Brien - 05/01/09 06:38 AM ET
Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) won the distinction of being the first lawmaker to tweet on the impending Supreme Court vacancy.

While a number of pundits and bloggers sounded off on the news that Justice David Souter is set to retire at the end of this term, Broun was the first member of Congress whose sounding off crossed our desk this morning.

Broun tweeted Friday:
As the Supreme Court changes Americans should remember that any Justice favoring a "living" constitution favors personal power to rewrite it

It should be noted that as a member of the House of Representatives, Broun gets no say in the confirmation of a new justice. That duty is only for members of the Senate.
