Kos and Gingrich talk shabu shabu

By Michael O'Brien - 04/14/09 05:06 AM ET
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) enjoyed a nice Japanese dinner last night, something that drew the unlikely input from liberal blogger Markos Moulitsas ("kos" of Daily Kos).

Gingrich tweeted last night:
We are having a fabulous dinner of shabu shabu at tachibana soon to be followed by superb green tea ice cream

(Shabu shabu, apparently, is a Japanese version of a hot pot.)

This drew the attention of Moulitsas, who retweeted Gingrich, calling it "elitist."

And then kos added:
@newtgingrich Shabu shabu at tachibana and green tea ice cream is okay as long as there's no arugula and a presidential campaign involved.

As the saying goes: Shabu shabu makes strange bedfellows.
