Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) accused California legislators of "running drills" on urgent budget measures before they failed to ratify the legislation late last night.
It's almost 10 and they r still running drills upstairs. Trying 2 pass the same bills I vetoed hours ago. We need 2 solve entire deficit.
The emergency budget provisions were designed to designate $3.3 billion budget cuts before midnight when the new fiscal year began. The deeply indebted state has been unable to pay its bills and now must write IOUs to certain creditors, the Los Angeles Times reported late last night.
This morning, Brad Peck of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce used the mishaps of one trial lawyer as a case against them all. He tweeted:
Going to see Bosox -O's today...what Angelos has done to that team is the biggest argument against letting trial lawyers run the country...
Orioles fans might not find Peck's dig so funny. The O's haven't had a winning season since 1997. Since that season, they have posted a 826-1031 record. Over the course of the losing streak, Orioles fans have pinned their losing ways on Peter Angelos, the team's owner. Many around baseball have labeled Angelos, who is a Baltimore-based trial lawyer, heavy-handed and cheap.
The Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korea dubbed June 25 "the day of struggle against U.S. Imperialism." In a release today state-run media outlet said, "The Korean people are hardening their mind to take revenge upon the U.S. imperialist aggressors, the sworn enemy, a thousandfold."
A Twitter account that provides English-language links to KCNA stories tweeted:
The link connects to the story detailing the festivities held on "the day of struggle." The release said that some citizens "expressed their resolution to wipe out to the last one the pernicious murderers, wolves in human shape, if they pounce upon the Korean people again."
Last week, Twitter Room reported the new KCNA Twitter account. However, it has not yet been confirmed if the North Korean regime is operating the account itself.
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) tweeted his excitement about getting to work with a super majority in the Senate.
Congratulations to Senator-elect Franken for today's unanimous Minn Supreme court victory affirming his election. It's time to swear him in!
Minutes ago, former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) conceded the race to Franken. Coleman's announcement concludes an eight-month court battle to decide the contest. Franken's victory ensures that the Senate Democrats have a 60 vote contingent that could override Republican attempts to filibuster.
The timing of the decision could not be more apt, as the Senate is due to take up climate change legislation and healthcare reform in the coming months.
I saw the note on here about Blackberrys. I started with the SkyPager which was the birth of Blackberry.
Then on to AOL Rim device then on the Earthlink etc. You want to talk Blackberry. I can talk all day and long before 1999.
Does the "note on here" refer to Twitter Room's earlier post calling out Mrs. McCain for exaggerating the BlackBerry's launch date? We may never know...
FYI: The SkyTel network did in fact debut 20 years ago, but we here at the Twitter Room stand by our story!
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) threw his hat into the debate over healthcare reform today, saying the major problem with any reform would be the cost of the proposal.
It's not the quality of health care it's the cost - wellness and fitness!
McCain appeared at a healthcare conference today in Houston alongside Senate Minority leader Mitch McConell (R-Ky.) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.). McCain tweeted about his appearance earlier today.
During his presidential run last year, McCain promoted his own healthcare proposal. His plan included used tax credits offered to individuals and families to purchase individual insurance plans. To pay for it, McCain planned to do away with tax breaks on employer-provided insurance.
At the time, President Barack Obama harshly criticized McCain's plan, saying that it would tax health benefits for the first time in history.
Now, however, President Obama and congressional Democrats have not ruled out taxing health benefits to fund their healthcare reform package.
Just appointed Ranking Member to the @EdLaborRepub Workforce Protection subcommittee. I'm excited to help workers and employers prosper.
McMorris Rodgers had entered the race to become ranking member of the House Education and Labor Committee, but lost out to Rep. John Kline (R-Minn.)
Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) formerly held McMorris Rodgers' new post, but he was appointed ranking member of the Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee. Kline previously held that position.
The reshuffle occurred because President Barack Obama appointed former House Armed Services ranking member John McHugh's (R-N.Y.) to become secretary of the Army. Rep. Buck McKeon (R-Fla.), who formerly served as ranking member on the Education and Labor Committee, was elected to assume the Arms Services slot.
