Republicans slammed Rep. Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday after the Bronx lawmaker sent a tweet praising Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez shortly after news of his death was announced. Serrano represents the nation's poorest congressional district, and had accepted millions in heating oil aid from the Chavez regime to benefit his district. In 2005, Serrano invited Chavez to speak with constituents in his neighborhood while the Venezuelan leader was visiting a United Nations general assembly meeting.

Twitter announced Thursday that it adopted a new security technology that's aimed at cracking down on phishing, a popular method used by hackers to send emails to users that appear to be from a Twitter-related email address in order to gain access to their account information.
The San Francisco-based company said it started using DMARC, a security protocol, earlier this month to prevent bad actors from sending emails to users from a poser Twitter.com email address. DMARC — which stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance — cuts down on phishing attacks by allowing an email sender, such as Twitter, to indicate that their email messages are authenticated and also direct email providers to either reject a suspicious message or flag it as spam in a user's inbox, according to the security protocol's website.
In a blog post published Thursday, Twitter Postmaster Josh Aberant said the company hopes users feel more at ease when receiving emails from Twitter because of its adoption of the security technology.

While in Jerusalem, Rubio met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the pair raised water bottles in a sly gesture toward Rubio's lunge for a water bottle in the midst of his response to President Obama's State of the Union address. The moment was captured by Rubio's press secretary on Twitter:

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) took to the Internet Tuesday night before and after President Obama’s State of the Union address to answer questions on Reddit.
Polis responded to questions for several hours on the popular website, which hosted President Obama’s “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session in August of 2012. The site also spearheaded opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act.
AMA’s are self-posts by users inviting other users to ask them any questions they may have. President Obama’s generated so much traffic that the website had difficult staying up.

House Republicans are looking to reach out to Hispanic voters via a new Spanish-language Twitter feed that debuted Monday afternoon.
The feed is the latest in an attempt by Republicans to woo Hispanic voters after 71 percent broke for President Obama in the last election. That figure, coupled with changing national demographics, has many in the party concerned that the GOP could struggle to remain viable without winning back a larger share of Hispanic voters.
