Washingtonienne's 'guilty pleasure' book out June 1
Posted: 05/18/05 12:00 AM [ET]

It’s finally here — Washingtonienne’s tome about her sex life on Capitol Hill hits bookshelves June 1.

The Washingtonienne is written by none other than 26-year-old Jessica Cutler, the ex-aide who was fired from Sen. Mike DeWine’s (R-Ohio) office two summers ago when word of her Washingtonienne blog, about her explosive sexcapades on Capitol Hill with aides married and otherwise, got out.

Vanity Fair, which listed the book under “guilty-pleasure beach reads,” declared that Cutler’s book was not as sexy as it would have liked. Stay tuned. …

Runaway bride gets no sympathy from Ga. members
Rep. John Linder (R-Ga.), who represents Duluth, Ga., where Jennifer Wilbanks, the bride-to-be, was going to live before she ran away, has little patience for the infamous runaway bride.

Last week, he remarked that the whole story about her has been “way overplayed.” Linder pointed out last week that she has “apparently been arrested three times for shoplifting.”

The bride’s hometown, Gainesville, Ga., is in Rep. Nathan Deal’s (R) district. He had no comment on the subject. “It is a non-legislative matter,” said Deal spokesman Todd Smith. “Other than the fact that it is our district, we have really received no calls on it. It is not on our radar as far as legislative matters go. I know he [Deal] won’t call back and give you a quote. It’s a personal matter for them.”

Rep. DeLauro on crutches
If you see Rep. Rosa DeLauro, 62, hopping around on crutches these days, it’s because the Connecticut Democrat has a stress fracture in her hip. The crutches are, according to her office, a preventive measure.

“My boss discovered she has a stress fracture of the hip — a common injury of women runners or joggers,” said DeLauro spokeswoman Kate Cyrul. “My boss is neither a runner nor a jogger, so we’re still trying to determine how she hurt herself! She has been on crutches for several weeks and is expected to come off of them soon.”

Sighting: Former Speaker’s wife wanders through lobby
Former House Speaker Thomas Foley’s (D-Wash.) wife, Heather, showed up in the Speaker’s Lobby last week to check out the portraits on the walls and walk through a place that was once extremely familiar to her.

When her husband served as Speaker, Heather Foley was on Capitol Hill all the time and worked in his office. She wore her long blondish/graying hair in pigtails tied with bright blue balls.

“She always wears pigtails,” noted an observer. “When your husband is the Speaker of the House, you can do whatever you want.” Added another observer who knew her back then, “No, you can’t.”

Thomas Foley was the 49th Speaker of the House. He was elected Speaker in 1989 and served in the position until 1995.

Ominous warning in Capitol restrooms
In case the stampede to leave the Capitol wasn’t enough to scare us all last week, there is a foreboding sign posted in the Capitol restrooms.

Above the sink, it reads: “Do not drink the water from the restrooms.”

Not that we would lap up water from a restroom sink like a dog, but ITK wanted to know the reasoning for the sign. According to a Capitol security employee, the warning is because of the high levels of lead found in the water. Apparently the signs have been in the men’s bathrooms for about two to three months.

A day of beauty on Capitol Hill
Lawmakers and staffers will have a chance to get pampered tomorrow for the sixth annual Welcome to our World Beauty Day, when 10 stylists and manicurists from Andre Chreky Salon as well as more than 100 members of the Professional Beauty Federation will be dispatched to Capitol Hill.

Between 4 and 8 p.m., members and their staffs will be able to flock to Cannon 345 for free haircuts, manicures, mini-facials and relaxation services.

Word has it you might spot Reps. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.), Mary Bono (R-Calif.), Donald Payne (D-N.J.), Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.) and Thelma Drake (R-Va.), among others. Call (614) 397-1266 for an appointment.

Louisiana aides miffed by Sen. Landrieu’s complaints
Some aides from Louisiana’s congressional delegation are annoyed at Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and her complaints to a local TV station concerning last week’s evacuation of the Capitol.

After the evacuation, Landrieu complained to KSLA News 12 in Shreveport, La. “There’s still a lot of confusion about where to evacuate and exactly what’s going on,” she said.

“We’re supposed to have a meeting point, but that place was arbitrarily changed,” she said. Most offices have secondary meeting spots if the original plan falls through.

“When we saw that, we were like, what are you talking about?” said a Louisiana GOP House aide. “Her complaints were what set us off. What do you mean your spot was arbitrarily changed? We were told we couldn’t go to our original spot, so we went to our second spot. I can assure you we are instructed to have a secondary meeting spot for exactly this reason.”
