•AVIATION: The Senior Pilots Coalition has hired Phillip Theodosiou to lobby on issues related to the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill.

•BANKING: Greg Nickerson, a former tax counsel on the House Ways and Means Committee, is one of two lobbyists listed by Angus and Nickerson LLC to lobby for HSBC GR Corp. on financial-services issues. Barbara Angus, a former international tax counsel at the Department of Treasury, is also listed.

•CHILD WELFARE: Clark & Weinstock has registered to handle strategic communications and public affairs consulting for Matt Larson, who will advocate funding to prevent child abuse, according to Senate records. Former Minnesota GOP Rep. Vin Weber and Eric Hotmire, a former director of communications for USA Freedom Corps, are among those listed on the registration.

•DEFENSE: The Boeing Company has hired Heather Podesta & Partners to lobby on missile defense. The Senate registration form lists Podesta, Laura Joshua and Eric Rosen, a former counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, as lobbyists.

•FOREIGN RELATIONS: Balch & Bingham LLP has registered to lobby on the 2008 foreign operations appropriations bill for Alfalit International, a nonprofit group that provides basic education in developing countries. Carl Biersack, Alexandra Gomez, William Stiers and Jovita Wenner are all listed as lobbyists.

•INSURANCE: The Commercial Mortgage Securities Association has registered to lobby for the extension and reauthorization of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act. Stacy Stathopoulos and Brendan Reilly are listed as lobbyists on the registration form filed with the Senate Office of Public Records.

Metlife and State Farm Insurance have both hired Quinn Gillespie and Associates to lobby on insurance issues. According to Senate Records, the firm will be lobbying on terrorism risk insurance and long-term care insurance for Metlife, while it will lobby on claim investigations related to Hurricane Katrina for State Farm.

•SCIENCE: The American Institute of Physics has hired Madison Associates to lobby on appropriations measures in its interest. The institute conducts research in physics, and the Senate registration form lists J. Michael Hall and Alyson Lewis as lobbyists.
