•DEFENSE. Park Strategies Washington Group hired United Technologies to lobby on Department of Defense authorization and appropriations.
•EDUCATION. The U.S. Green Building Council hired Capitol Solutions to lobby on “issues related to the promotion of high performance green schools,” according to Senate lobbying records. Kimberly Nelson Hill, a former staff member on the Senate Appropriations Homeland Security subcommittee, is listed as lobbying for the council, along with Daniel Tate and David Taylor.
•ENERGY. Cerberus Capital Management hired the Hobbs Group, founded by former Bush administration legislative liaison David Hobbs, to lobby on energy legislation and the push to raise Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, according to Senate lobbying records.
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners hired Vinson & Elkins to lobby on pipeline expansion, according to lobbying registrations.
Foundation Coal hired the Crane Group to lobby on energy issues, Senate records show.
Bryan Cave Strategies is lobbying for Aura Renewable Energy Corp. on “biogas energy,” according to Senate lobbying records. Matt Jessee and David Russell are lobbying for the energy company.
Xcel Energy hired Sheldon Harris to lobby on energy issues, including the Renewable Portfolio Standard, according to Senate lobbying records.
•HEALTHCARE. Wellcare Health Plans hired Hogan & Hartson to lobby on Medicare issues, according to public lobbying records. A team of eight lobbyists is listed on the registration, including Reid Stuntz, a former minority staff director and chief counsel on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
•TAX. Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is lobbying for Southwest Windpower on energy tax legislation, according to Senate lobbying records. Lobbyists Jayne Fitzgerald, Rob Leonard and Jeffrey McMillen are lobbying for the company, which makes small wind systems.
•TRANSPORTATION. Don Quijote Airport has hired Barbour Griffith & Rogers to lobby on its behalf. The lobbying team includes Stephan Rademaker, a former senior counsel and policy director for Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and a former assistant secretary of state. The firm was hired to promote the international airport and its capabilities, according to Senate lobbying records.
