• AGRICULTURE: American Defense Intl. has registered to lobby for several new clients on various research issues, including Albedo Technology International A/S, an agricultural research company. American Defense will meet “with officials regarding products aimed to improve earth surface conditions and environment for enhanced water content growth and food production,” according to a registration form filed with the Senate. John Barth and Michael Herson are among the lobbyists listed.

• ENERGY: Natural Resource Results LLC has registered to lobby for Gulf Coast Energy Inc. of Livingston, Ala., on renewable energy issues. David Anderson, a former associate director at the Office of Management and Budget, is the only lobbyist listed on a registration form filed with the Senate.

• HEALTH: Carmen Group Inc. is lobbying for Value Options Inc., a managed behavioral health services firm. Lobbyists listed on a form filed with the Senate include David Carmen, Aron Griffin, Dallam Harper and John Ladd.

• MINING: Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert’s (R-Ill.) former counsel is lobbying for Active Control, a wireless communications firm based in Ontario. Ted Van Der Meid is listed on a Senate form filed by McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. The firm also lists Mary Scott Greenwood as lobbying on mine safety legislation, technologies and safety standards for mine communications for Active Control.

• TAXES: The Carlyle Group has hired McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP to lobby on tax legislation regarding private equity firms and carried interest issues, a hot issue in Congress this year. Mac Campbell and Joseph Dowley are listed as lobbyists on the registration form, which describes the Carlyle Group as a private global investment firm.

Kenneth Cunningham, a former chief of staff and general counsel to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), has registered to lobby for two clients on tax issues. According to Senate registrations, Ken Cunningham Group LLC will represent the Private Equity Council, a coalition of private equity firms, on tax and regulatory issues. Cunningham has also been hired by Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP on behalf of Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. to work on tax issues affecting private equity.
