Appointments
• President Obama has nominated Gordon J. Davis, Fred Eychaner, Charles B. Ortner and Penny Pritzker to serve on the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Davis, a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, counts the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. among his clients. Eychaner, the founder and chairman of Alphawood Foundation and Newsweb Corp., is chairman of the Joffrey Ballet. Ortner represents the media and entertainment industries at Proskauer Rose LLP, where he is a partner. Pritzker was national finance chairwoman of Obama’s presidential campaign and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
• Paige Alexander is the president’s nominee to serve as assistant administrator for Europe and Eurasia at USAID. Since 2001, she has been senior vice president of IREX, an international nonprofit. Alexander previously served in USAID’s bureau for Europe and Eurasia, including a stint as deputy assistant administrator.
• The president has nominated Jo Ann Rooney for the position of principal deputy undersecretary of Defense for personnel and readiness. Rooney is the president of Mount Ida College in Massachusetts. She has taught courses on a variety of management topics, including strategic planning and organizational change.
• Michael Vickers is the president’s nominee to serve as undersecretary of defense for intelligence. Vickers is the assistant secretary of Defense for special operations/low-intensity conflict and interdependent capabilities, a position he has held since the George W. Bush administration.
• The president has nominated Thomas R. Nides, the chief operation officer of Morgan Stanley, to be the deputy secretary of State for management and resources. Nides previously worked at the public-relations firm Burson-Marsteller, where he was worldwide president and chief executive officer.
• President Obama has nominated Susan H. Hildreth for director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. She is the city librarian of the Seattle Public Library and formerly the state librarian for California.
