Veteran Schumer staffer joins lobbying firm

By Rachel Leven - 09/14/11 11:44 AM ET

A veteran staffer for Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is joining the lobbying firm Van Scoyoc Associates to work on tax issues.

M. Jeff Hamond, who had worked on Capitol Hill for a decade, most recently as Schumer’s economic policy director, will work in Van Scoyoc’s tax practice, according to a release from the firm.

The release said he would focus on taxes, philanthropic issues and economic policy.

“Jeff will greatly strengthen [Van Scoyoc Associates'] taxation practice,” H. Stewart Van Scoyoc, CEO and president of the firm, said in a press release. “Jeff’s experience working … on economic and taxation issues makes him a tremendous asset.”

Hamond has been working for Schumer since the senator started on the Senate Finance Committee in January 2005.

He has also worked for Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as senior legislative assistant for economic and tax policy and for senator-turned-lobbyist Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) as a legislative assistant for economic policy.

“[Van Scoyoc Associates] is a great government affairs company, and I’m excited about joining the firm’s deep bench of experts,” Hamond said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the tax team at Van Scoyoc, and also broadening the firm’s reach into nonprofit advocacy and philanthropy.”
