•John Simmons, Christopher Goode and Bert Steele have started the Roosevelt Group, a government-affairs consulting and advocacy client services firm. Simmons previously worked for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as a senior adviser for 11 years and also served former Rep. James Walsh (R-N.Y.) as appropriations associate and military legislative assistant. Goode, who leaves Akin Gump after 10 years as a policy adviser, has 25 years of experience as a Navy officer and captain. Steele leaves Akin Gump after eight years as a policy adviser, and served as chief of staff for the Obama-Biden transition team’s Intelligence Community Agency Review.
• Anna Schwamlein Howard has joined Drinker Biddle & Reath as the Medicare reimbursement and health policy director within the firm’s government and regulatory affairs practice. Howard comes from AARP, where she most recently served as a senior legislative representative.
• Terry Goddard has moved to SNR Denton to be the public policy and regulation practice senior counsel. Goddard, who will serve in SNR Denton’s state attorneys general practice, served as attorney general for Arizona for two terms. He also has worked as mayor of Phoenix and for the Department of Housing and Urban Development as the Arizona state director. He will be working out of the firm’s Phoenix office.
• Derek Schlickeisen is moving to Bloomberg to be a member of the company’s communications and public affairs team. Schlickeisen leaves his position working for Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) as a press secretary. Before that, he was a communications associate at the League of Conservation Voters.
• Kevin Griffis starts as a principal with the Podesta Group on Wednesday. Griffis most recently worked for the Commerce Department as a senior adviser to the chief of staff and former director of public affairs. He has also served the Democratic Party of Virginia as communications director and as a communications director for the Obama for America campaign.
