• President Obama nominated three judges to serve on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania: Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro, Judge Luis Felipe Restrepo and Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl. Alejandro serves as a judge on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas and has previously worked as a staff attorney for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Restrepo works as a U.S. magistrate judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and worked as a partner at Krasner & Restrepo. Schmehl serves as president judge of the Berks County Court of Common Pleas and was a partner at Rhoda, Stoudt & Bradley.
• The president has announced his intent to nominate three individuals to the Board of Visitors to the United States Military Academy: Bob J. Archuleta, Travis Morrison and Adm. Ronne Froman. Morrison is a former active-duty infantry officer in the Army and has owned several businesses in southern Missouri. Froman is a retired admiral for the Navy and the chief officer of Reboot, a nonprofit organization that “provides behavioral training and employment assistance to veterans transitioning to civilian life.”
• The president intends to appoint three individuals to the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development: Dr. Waded Cruzado, Dr. Brady J. Deaton and Dr. Harold L. Martin. The president intends to re-nominate Deaton as the chairman of the board, a position to which he was originally appointed in 2011. He also works as the chancellor of the University of Missouri. Cruzado has held several positions at public universities and is currently the president of Montana State University. Martin is the chancellor of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.
