•Steven Soper, a former associate director of the White House Office of Political Affairs, has joined Direct Impact. Soper oversaw the White House’s contact with all Republican campaigns in the Northeast. He previously served as director of political education at the Republican National Committee.
•Todd L. Cranford, former senior counsel to House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.), has joined Patton Boggs. He previously served as senior counsel in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement.
•Philip G. Kiko, former general counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, has joined the government affairs practice of Foley & Lardner LLP.
•Dena Battle has joined the National Association of Manufacturers as director of tax policy. Battle served previously as a lobbyist for the National Federation of Independent Business and was a staffer for Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and former Rep. Nick Smith (R-Mich.).
•Judith E. Schaeffer was named legal director for the People For the American Way. She is a long-time member of the organization’s legal team.
•Jeannine Dowling, a former director of public affairs at Philip Morris, has joined the Washington office of communications firm FD as a senior vice president in the business consulting practice.
•Mark Botti, a former senior official in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, has become a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
•Daeman Harris, a veteran of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, has been appointed to vice president for the Middle East and Africa for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
•Derick Berlage is a new partner at the Rockville, Md., office of Venable LLP. A former adviser to Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s (D) transition team, Berlage will counsel public and private clients on major development projects.
