• The Mortgage Bankers Association has appointed Brad Cheney as director of legislative affairs and has promoted Pace Bradshaw to director of government affairs. Cheney was chief of staff for Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.). He also worked for the Glover Park Group and was an aide in the office of then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.). Bradshaw joined the trade association in 2006. He worked for former Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.).



• Google has hired Mistique Cano as its new manager of global communications and public affairs and Frannie Wellings as its federal policy outreach manager. Cano comes from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, where she was vice president of communications. She also was the Pennsylvania press secretary for Sen. John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) 2004 presidential campaign. Wellings was the telecom adviser to Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and also has worked at Free Press, a telecom watchdog group.

• Scott Corley will join Monument Policy Group as its new senior vice president. Corley was a director of government affairs for Microsoft and also worked for the Information Technology Industry Council. He was an aide to former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), working on the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force.

• Matthew Chiller has been hired by CH2M HILL as its senior director of federal affairs. Chiller served as deputy chief of staff and legislative director for Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Calif.) before joining the company.

• Retired Rear Adm. Frank Thorp has joined AM General as vice president of communications and government operations. Thorp is the former chief of information for the Navy and once was a deputy assistant Defense secretary. AM General is best known for its production of the multipurpose HMMWV vehicle, or “Humvee.”
