• DEFENSE. Tactical Assault Gear, a manufacturer of tactical gear for the military and first responders, has hired Miller Group International to lobby on “tactical gear for military service members,” according to lobbying disclosure records.


• ENERGY. Dickstein Shapiro has been hired by EnergySolutions Inc., an environmental-services company, to monitor legislation dealing with low-level radioactive waste. Mark Paoletta, former chief counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is working on the account.

• FINANCIAL SERVICES. Barclays Capital Inc. has hired Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton to lobby on “financial regulatory reform draft proposals — provisions relating to over-the-counter derivatives,” according to lobbying disclosure records.

• HEALTHCARE. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has hired Tarplin, Downs & Young to lobby on the renewal of the Special Diabetes Program. Linda Tarplin, a deputy assistant Health and Human Services secretary during the last Bush administration, and Michelle Easton, past chief health counsel for the Senate Finance Committee, are lobbying for the foundation.

Health First, a hospital and healthcare system provider, has hired Holland & Knight to lobby for federal funding in issues related to health reform, according to lobbying disclosure records.

• SPACE. United Space Alliance has hired JK Associates to lobby on funding for the space shuttle. Joel Kaplan, a former White House deputy chief of staff and House Appropriations Committee aide, is working on the account.

• TAX. Bracewell and Giuliani is lobbying for Michaels Stores Inc., the craft goods retailer, on “tariff-relief legislation,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Edward Krenik, a former associate administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency, and Milam Mabry, once a legislative assistant to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), are lobbying for the company.

• TELECOMMUNICATIONS. Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre has been hired to lobby for Research in Motion Inc., the BlackBerry manufacturer, on the patent reform bill.
