* APPROPRIATIONS. Alcalde & Fay are lobbying for the Village of Pinecrest, Fla., to help find federal funding for municipal water infrastructure and transportation projects, including in the transportation reauthorization bill and the Water Resources Development Act.

* ENVIRONMENT. DLA Piper has been hired by Premier Chemicals, a manufacturer of magnesium oxide and hydroxide, to lobby on climate change legislation. Steven Shimberg, former staff director for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, is lobbying for the chemical manufacturer.

* FINANCIAL SERVICES. Goldman Sachs has hired the Harold Ford Group to help gather information and share ideas about legislation and regulations that would affect the financial-services industry, according to lobbying disclosure records. Harold Ford Sr., a former Democratic Tennessee congressman, is working on the account. 

* HEALTHCARE. PricewaterhouseCoopers is lobbying for Verizon on tax provisions relating to Medicare Part D included in both the House and Senate healthcare reform bills. Andrew Lyon, a former deputy assistant secretary at the Treasury Department and senior economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, is lobbying for the telecom giant.

The American Diabetes Association has hired Drinker Biddle & Reath to lobby for more “federal funding for diabetes prevention, diagnosis research and treatment,” according to lobbying disclosure records.

Gephardt Group Government Affairs is lobbying for the Methodist Hospital System on “Medicare graduate medical education reform,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Former House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (Mo.) and his former staff director, Andrea King, are lobbying for the hospital.

* TAX. The Poker Players Alliance has hired Ryan, Mackinnon, Vasapoli and Berzok to lobby on legislation that would license and tax online gambling. Jeff Mackinnon, former legislative director to Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), and Matthew Berzok, once chief counsel to Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), are working on the account.

* TRANSPORTATION. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has hired Van Scoyoc Associates to lobby on “public transit agency-related issues and initiatives,” according to lobbying disclosure records. Steven Palmer, a former assistant secretary for the Transportation Department, and Kevin Kelly, once staff director for the Senate Appropriations Housing and Urban Development subcommittee, are working on the account.
