•Brooks A. Brunson has joined Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck as a policy adviser in the government relations group. Brunson comes to Brownstein from Qwest, where he was senior director of congressional affairs and director of the company’s political action committee. He has worked as political director for Epiphany Productions Inc. and been a special assistant to the chief of staff for the House Republican Conference and deputy director for Republicans Abroad.
• Scott M. Melville will join the Consumer Healthcare Products Association as its new president. He was formerly senior vice president for government affairs and general counsel for the Healthcare Distribution Management Association. Melville has also been an attorney, head of government relations for Cephalon Inc. and a lobbyist at Hoffmann-La Roche and Sterling Winthrop. He was legislative counsel and a House Appropriations Committee associate on the staff of Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.).
• Martin Machowsky has joined McGuireWoods Consulting as a senior vice president for strategic communications. Prior to coming to the firm, he was president of 90Degree Communications and spokesman for the musicFIRST Coalition. He also was an executive vice president at Edelman. Machowsky has served as chief of staff to Audrey Moore, former chairwoman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and was legislative director to Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.).
• Barbara Van Allen has joined the Mortgage Bankers Association as senior vice president of communications and marketing. She comes from NISH, a national nonprofit agency that helps find jobs for people with disabilities, where she was the chief marketing officer. She has worked in senior management positions at several major corporations, including ITT Corp. and Cushman & Wakefield Inc., and has worked on Capitol Hill.
