•The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has hired Lauren Pastarnack as director of government affairs and Kate Bedingfield as director of strategic communications. Pastarnack comes to the MPAA after serving as a senior staffer on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Bedingfield previously served at the White House under President Obama, most recently as associate communications director. The MPAA also announced the promotion of Alex Swartsel to director of global policy. Swartsel worked on Capitol Hill for Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), who is now the MPAA’s chairman and CEO.
•Lisa Jones will become counsel for the environmental practice of Sidley Austin. Jones leaves her position at the Justice Department as an assistant section chief to the appellate section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division. She served at the Justice Department for 18 years and was awarded the John Marshall Award for “contributions and excellence in specific areas of legal performance.”
•Liz Garner is joining the National Restaurant Association as its director of commerce and entrepreneurship in the policy and government affairs group. Garner previously worked for the Food Marketing Institute as director of government relations.
•Karl Hopkins, Shon Ramey and Sinan Pismisoglu have joined SNR Denton as partner, counsel and foreign legal specialist, respectively. Hopkins is an oil-and-gas attorney and heads the national oil companies committee at the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. Ramey will focus “on mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and financing.” Pismisoglu will focus on “the representation of public and private entities in international litigations, project finance, privatization, construction, real estate development and management.”
