• Frederick G. “Bud” Wright has been named the executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials board of directors, a position he will assume on Feb. 1. Wright previously served as the safety program director and executive director of the Federal Highway Administration. 

• Erwin Furukawa and J. Michael McQuade have been elected to the board of directors at the Alliance to Save Energy. Furukawa is the senior vice president of customer service at Southern California Edison and manages “innovative customer products and services, customer engagement and call center operations, field services, account management [and] customer satisfaction.” McQuade serves as the senior vice president of science and technology for United Technologies Corp. and focuses on research and development projects.

• Steve Hedges will become the new director of media relations for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Hedges has been part of Pulitzer Prize-winning projects at the Chicago Tribune and has worked in public relations, concentrating on crisis management, media messaging and aviation safety. He is also an instrument-rated pilot and aircraft owner. 

• Brendan Flanagan has been promoted to the vice president of state and local affairs for the National Restaurant Association. In the newly created position, he will manage state and local policy issues for the trade association, “working directly with state restaurant association executives and their staff members, as well as the state-focused governmental affairs staff of Association members.” For more than a decade, Flanagan worked in the restaurant association’s government affairs department, most recently as a senior director of federal relations.

• Lisa Powers has been promoted to senior vice president of public affairs for the Personal Care Products Council. She has spent six years as the department’s vice president. As the senior vice president, Powers will “oversee the development and execution of strategic communications and public affairs programs on a wide variety of issues affecting the industry” and lead media relations and crisis management for the trade association.
