• Dan Whiting has been hired by the National Alliance of Forest Owners as its new director of communications. Whiting was chief of staff at the Agriculture Department’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. He also worked for then-Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) as a press secretary and communications director.

• Christopher D. Ornelas has joined Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Washington office as a counsel. Before joining the firm, Ornelas was counsel on communications and technology policy for former Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.). He also was an associate at Wilkinson Barker.

• Richard Gephardt has joined the board of the Ford Motor Co. Gephardt is a former House Democratic leader who served 14 terms as a Missouri congressman. He is president and CEO of the Gephardt Group, a lobbying and consulting firm, and senior counsel and strategic adviser for DLA Piper.

• Chara R. Bray has joined the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents as a legislative assistant. Bray was formerly the director of legislative correspondence in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. She managed all written correspondence between members of Congress and President George W. Bush.

• Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications has named George F. Cronin and Kelly O. Lynch as principals at the firm. Cronin served as press secretary for the Democratic Coordinated Campaign in New Hampshire during the 2008 presidential campaign, and also was a senior adviser to then-Sen. • Ethan Sonnichsen is the new government relations director for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Sonnichsen joined the trade association in 2006. Before that, he worked for the American Academy of Actuaries.
