House Republicans are headed for around a 20-seat loss,
with Democrats netting 18 seats so far and several close races outstanding.
Early Wednesday morning, Democrats added wins over
Republican Reps. Tim Walberg (Mich.), Jon Porter (Nev.),
Steve Chabot (Ohio) and Thelma Drake (Va.), and for the open seats of Reps.
Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.) and Ralph Regula (R-Ohio).
The key races outstanding include Rep. Bill Sali’s
(R-Idaho) district, Rep. Dave Reichert’s (R-Wash.) district and the open-seat
races in the districts of Republican Reps. John Doolittle (Calif.), Wayne
Gilchrest (Md.) and Jim Saxton (N.J.).
The Republican in Saxton’s district conceded early
Tuesday night, but returns now show him ahead by almost 2,000 votes with 93 percent
of precincts in.
There also may be a recount in Rep. Virgil Goode's (Va.) district, where he
and Democrat Tom Perriello are within 600 votes of each other.
Democrats so far have won 22 GOP-held seats, while
Republicans won four Democratic-held seats.
The other GOP victims are Reps. Ric Keller (Fla.), Tom
Feeney (Fla.), Christopher Shays (Conn.), Robin Hayes (N.C.), Phil English
(Pa.), Randy Kuhl (N.Y.), Marilyn Musgrave (Colo.), Jim Saxton (N.J.) and Joe Knollenberg (Mich.).
The Democrats also won the open seats in the districts of
GOP Reps. James Walsh (N.Y.), Jerry Weller (Ill.), Rick Renzi (Ariz.), Tom
Davis (Va.), Steve Pearce (N.M.), Heather Wilson (N.M.) and Terry Everett
(Ala.).
Republicans knocked off four Democratic freshman: Reps. Don
Cazayoux (La.), Nick Lampson (Texas), Nancy Boyda (Kan.) and Tim Mahoney
(Fla.).
