Huckabee wins in West Virginia
Posted: 02/05/08 02:52 PM [ET]
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has won his second state in the Republican presidential nominating contest, taking 18 of West Virginia’s delegates at the state convention Tuesday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.

Huckabee overtook former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who held an eight-point lead after the first round of voting. With no candidate receiving a majority in the first round, Huckabee, Romney and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) headed to a second ballot.

In the first round, Romney took 41 percent to Huckabee’s 33 percent and McCain’s16 percent. Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) took 10 percent and was eliminated.

The convention will award 18 of the state’s 30 delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Huckabee won the first presidential contest in Iowa a month ago but had not added any victories since then.
