Judith Giuliani, wife of Republican presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, admits freely that she is new to politics, but she seemed to be an old hand as she rallied about 50 members of Women for Rudy at a fundraising reception at the City Club in Washington Friday afternoon. “I’m new to politics, but I just have to tell you, this group has just so energized me,” she said. Giuliani and organizers with the group repeatedly made mention that the majority of the electorate is made up of women and how they have the ability to decide the outcome of an election. “Sometimes the media will say that the Democrats have all the women votes locked up,” Giuliani said. “I don’t think so.” Giuliani went through the talking points of what the campaign sees as the former mayor’s strongest assets, saying the candidate is “known for action and accomplishments.” “He can define a problem, and he knows how to solve it,” she said. She added that the former mayor, whom she has “dubbed the energizer bunny without the rechargeable batteries,” combines “a tough mind with a tender heart.” Current and former GOP Reps. Mary Bono (Calif.), Candace Miller (Mich.), Nancy Johnson (Conn.), Judy Biggert (Ill.) and Jo Ann Emerson (Mo.) were scheduled to attend but were unable to make it. Former Rep. Susan Molinari (R-N.Y.) introduced Judith Giuliani. Women for Rudy has more than 6,000 members with its largest chapters in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire and the big second and third round states of California, Florida, New York and New Jersey, according to the Giuliani campaign. |
