Obama campaign reaches out to female lawmakers |

The Barack Obama campaign continued its effort to reach out to women and supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) Wednesday night with a dinner for female House members. The dinner, at the home of Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), was attended by 28 female members. More than half of the women were former Clinton supporters, said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), a national co-chairwoman for Obama. Campaign officials put on a brief presentation and then the lawmakers started asking questions, Schakowsky said. It was not at all hostile, she added. “The people who came are ready to move on,” Schakowsky said, though she added that all agreed Clinton had suffered from sexism in the media. “It was an opportunity to offer suggestions about ways to unify.” She said there were no concrete plans made to do anything for the campaign, but members did discuss writing joint op-eds or joint blog posts or holding some sort of unity event. |
