Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Wash.) has won reelection to
Congress, with the Associated Press calling Tuesday’s election in his favor and
opponent Darcy Burner conceding. Burner’s campaign issued a statement late Friday night
congratulating Reichert.
“It is likely at this point that Congressman Reichert has
won reelection, and while we will certainly ensure that every valid vote is
counted, we accept the decision of the voters,” the Democrat said in a
statement.Reichert led Burner by 8,500 votes out of more than
275,000 cast, according to the Washington Secretary of State. Results were slow
rolling in this week due to the state’s vote-by-mail system.
It is the second straight election in which Reichert has
held off a well-funded and spirited challenge from Burner.
Another race was called earlier in the night in Maryland,
where Democrat Frank Kratovil has apparently taken the seat of outgoing Rep.
Wayne Gilchrest (R).
However, Kratovil’s opponent, state Sen. Andy Harris (R),
has yet to concede.
Three other contests remain outstanding: those of Rep. Virgil Goode (R-Va.) and
the races to replace Reps. Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio) and John Doolittle
(R-Calif.).
Democrats have so far netted 20 seats from Tuesday’s
election.
