Relative of Allard, Campbell endorses Rep. Mark Udall
Posted: 10/06/08 07:05 PM [ET]

Karen Allard Campbell has close family ties to Colorado’s two most recent GOP senators. But she’s working to make them the last of a dying breed.

Allard Campbell, the niece of retiring Sen. Wayne Allard (R) and daughter-in-law of former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R), announced Monday that she is backing Democratic Rep. Mark Udall (D) in the race to succeed her uncle.

Udall has held onto a lead over former Rep. Bob Schaffer (R) throughout their match-up this cycle, but the race is still close. The announcement came hours before the two were set to debate Monday night.

Allard Campbell calls herself a “proud Republican” but has also fought members of her party on social issues, including abortion.
