Romney wins Nevada GOP caucuses
Posted: 01/19/08 02:17 PM [ET]

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the projected winner of the Republican caucuses in Nevada.

The Associated Press called the race behind Romney’s strong showing in caucus entrance polls.

Early returns showed Romney winning more than 40 percent of the vote, far ahead of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) and former Sen. Fred Thompson (Tenn.)

Romney’s campaign was much more visible in Nevada than his GOP rivals, who have spent most of the last week furiously campaigning in South Carolina. The Palmetto State’s GOP primary is also held on Saturday, and the Democrats are also caucusing in Nevada.
