Ohio state Sen. Steve Stivers (R) has expanded his lead in the
state’s 15th congressional district race to 594 votes after vote counts in
Madison County have been finalized. The lead grew by 115 votes with the additional
Madison County totals.
Stivers has seen his lead grow steadily since
initially leading Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy (D) by 149 votes.
Stivers added 373 votes from provisional and absentee
ballots in Madison, while Kilroy added 258, according to the Columbus Dispatch, for a net
shift of 115.
The race is far from over, though. Madison and Union
counties, which lean Republican, have now counted all their ballots, while
thousands of provisional ballots in Democratic-leaning Franklin remain
uncounted.
Regardless, the race appears headed for an automatic
recount, with the margin well within the 0.5 percent trigger.
The winner will replace retiring Rep. Deborah Pryce
(R) in a swing district. Kilroy came up just shy of defeating Pryce in 2006.
