Treadwell gets Independence Party nomination
Posted: 07/14/08 07:22 PM [ET]

Former New York Secretary of State Sandy Treadwell (R) secured a spot on the ballot against Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D) by earning the nomination of the Independence Party.

The Post-Star, which serves the Adirondack region, reported that Gillibrand’s supporters hoped to force a primary challenge against Treadwell in September for the Independence nomination, but did not succeed. Gillibrand was not considered for the Independence nod.

Treadwell is challenging Gillibrand in New York’s 20th district, which covers the Albany area.

Treadwell is also seeking nominations from the Conservative Party and the Republican Party, where he faces primary opponents. He is the favorite for the GOP nod.

The Independence Party bills itself as New York’s third-largest political party.
