Warner raised $2.7 million in fourth quarter
Posted: 01/31/08 01:54 PM [ET]
Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D) raised $2.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2007 for his Senate campaign, a tremendous total that trumps even influential incumbents up for reelection in 2008.

Warner raised $1 million in a shortened third quarter and now has $2.9 million cash on hand, according to his campaign.

“Virginians are enthusiastic about Governor Warner’s strong record of responsible and effective leadership,” said Warner spokesman Kevin Hall. “Governor Warner has proven he can bring people together to make real change, and Virginians support his candidacy because that’s what they want to see in Washington.”

Warner’s likely opponent, former Gov. Jim Gilmore (R), has yet to provide his fourth quarter figures.

The two of them will vie for retiring Sen. John Warner’s (R) seat, with Mark Warner as the early favorite.
