Coffee or tea? I’m in transition now. I grind my beans [and] make really good coffee in the morning. And the rest of day, it’s water and tea.
Salty or sweet? Both. Salty caramel is the best.
What’s a food you can’t live without? Chocolate, especially caramel. Those Ghirardelli chocolate squares with caramel.
Where’s your favorite place to power-lunch? Who power-lunches around here when we’re on the Hill all the time? We just kind of grab food on the run. We might go into the cloakroom and grab a hot dog or something, just for survival.
What’s your favorite D.C. restaurant? I like to do breakfast at the Four Seasons because it’s easy for me to rally myself in there and go on into the Hill. As far as nice restaurants, I used to go to the Mendocino Grill a lot in Georgetown, and I like Sonoma, The Source, and Kinkead’s.
Have you ever gotten food poisoning? No.
What’s your cocktail or drink of choice? I like water, and if I’m feeling festive, sparkling water.
What’s your cooking specialty? I like to make braised short ribs. I like to do a steamed salmon with miso and sesame, and then in the summer I like to barbecue, and I like to grill vegetables.
Do you have any food allergies? I found out that I was allergic to lobster and crab, and so I can’t eat those.
What is a food you can’t stomach? I don’t even look at it if I don’t like it, so it doesn’t register. I don’t like anything that’s like liver or anything like that.
What’s your favorite candy? The chocolate with the caramel.
What’s your favorite pig-out food? Let me tell you what I do when I pig out. It’s all desserts. My sister and I bake a lot. One time we baked a peach pie. First of all, you take a slice, and you eat it. Then you take another slice, and you eat it. We almost ate the whole pie.
