You’ve taken her to see the Washington Monument, the Lincoln, the Jefferson and Roosevelt. You’ve even pulled out your congressional badge and taken her on the tour of the Capitol. Your mom has seen all that Washington has to offer (except the inside of your apartment, thank goodness) and is now hungry.
There is only one thing left to do on Mother’s Day: brunch.
While you could probably survive on a cup of coffee, that won’t do for mom. So here are some of the best weekend stops that Washington has to offer … but call for reservations; otherwise, you could end up at Starbucks, or worse, your kitchen.
3311 Connecticut Ave. NW
Brunch: 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
If you mother likes quaint neighborhood haunts and white tablecloths, brunch at Ardeo, with its cozy atmosphere, will make her feel right at home on Mother’s Day — and without the cleanup. Their prix fixe menu offers popular brunch fare with a twist. For example, the Eggs Benedict: your traditional English muffin, ham and eggs, and hollandaise sauce is taken up a notch with asparagus, pancetta and spinach, plus home fries and fresh fruit. If mom is not into typical brunch fare, offerings like the double-cut Kurobuto pork chop with carrot risotto, kumquat marmalade and rhubarb-chipotle essence make for a good alternative.
Price: $40 per person
Reservations: (202) 244-6750 or online.
2. The Mansion on O Street
2020 O St. NW
Brunch: 11a.m.-4 p.m.
The Mansion on O Street is perfect for the mother who can appreciate a good adventure, because brunch at the Mansion is much more than an omelet and a mimosa. Expect at least three rooms filled with food (one devoted solely to dessert) and a dining room that is filled with so much art and knickknacks that conversation will frequently turn to the surroundings rather than your personal life. In between courses, visitors are encouraged to explore the non-rented rooms of the five interconnected townhouses that make up the hotel. The only catch — reservations must be made and pre-paid online.
Price: $65/person, $25/kids under 11 includes unlimited champagne, fresh juice, hot coffee, hot tea.
Reservations: Phone: (202) 496-2020 or online.
3. Blue Duck Tavern, Park Hyatt
24th and M streets NW
Brunch: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Blue Duck’s Chef Brian McBride has endeavored to create a Mother’s Day brunch that she will talk about well into the evening with a fixed-price menu that includes a first course, choice of entrée and dessert in addition to a buffet.
Entrée choices will include (but are not limited to): Maine scallops with morel mushrooms, peas, cipollini onions and crispy speck; Jameson Farm braised lamb shank with garlic jus, parsley, baby turnips and fava beans; as well as roasted filet mignon and foie gras sauce with mushroom crust and young carrots.
Again, it’s important to note these are just the entrée choices. Enjoy.
Price: $80 per person; $40 for children between 6 and 12.

4. Teatro Goldoni
1909 K St. NW
Brunch: Noon-8 p.m.
Begin brunch by toasting mom with a Bellini — then there are choices to be made. The Mother’s Day menu offers a choice for each of the five courses they are offering … and we will warn you … this will be difficult. The good news is you will not have to choose between a pasta entrée or something with protein since pasta, meat and fish are three of the five courses that you and your mother get to decide.
Unfortunately, the last options may be the hardest: Torrone zabaglione mold yellow peaches in syrup, warm chocolate sauce crispy treat or sweet fennel panna cotta, hazelnut crunch, saffron glaze amaretto cobbler.
Price: $59/ person
Reservations: (202) 955-9494
5. Indigo Landing
1 Marina Drive, Alexandria, Va. 22314
Brunch: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Situated on the Potomac River right outside of D.C., Indigo Landing is a non-traditional choice for Mother’s Day but well worth the trip on the GW Parkway. The a la carte entrees range from Jamaican Chicken Melts to Belgium waffles and also include a lavish breakfast and a lunch buffet. A free glass of champagne will also be provided to guests in order to properly toast your mother just for being herself. A live jazz band will play throughout the brunch, further adding to a day that your mom will not soon forget.
