Busy Baucus calls timeout on healthcare to ‘save Christmas’

By Christina Wilkie - 10/26/09 06:32 PM ET

Now that the recent flurry of healthcare negotiations has slowed somewhat, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) can turn his attention to flurries of a different sort: imitation snow suspended in water, aka snow globes.

Just in time for the Christmas season, the Senate Finance Committee chairman has introduced two pieces of legislation, known as miscellaneous tariff bills, designed specifically to spare snow globes from the tariff fees imposed when most goods are exported from the United States. One bill is for acrylic globes, the other for glass.

As a clever Baucus spokesman put it, “The senator has already saved healthcare reform. Now he’s saving Christmas!”
