The Committee on House Administration yesterday passed by a party-line vote the 527 Reform Act of 2005, sponsored by Reps. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) and Marty Meehan (D-Mass.).
All three Democrats on the committee voted against the measure, which would require soft-money groups known as 527s, named after a section of the tax code, to comply with federal campaign-finance laws.
