Waxman spends Father’s Day at the mall

By Christina Wilkie - 06/21/10 07:58 PM ET

While many members of Congress were being feted by their children on Father’s Day, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) was taking care of another kind of personal business: shopping for ties.

The lawmaker was spotted at Nordstrom in the Montgomery Mall on Sunday afternoon, perusing the tie display. “I was with my wife [Janet Kessler],” he told ITK, “and we bought some ties.”

The father of two explained that he celebrated Father’s Day a few days early this year. “I saw my son [Michael], daughter-in-law and their children on Friday, but they also called on Sunday to wish me a happy day.

“My daughter [Shai Abramson] and her family live in Israel, so they sent an e-mail and we talked on the phone, too,” he said.
