Obama at home among ‘tall’ and ‘competitive’ women

By Christina Wilkie - 07/19/10 07:14 PM ET

President Obama found himself in familiar company on Monday afternoon, but he wasn’t with a group of politicians or law professors.

He was with tall, competitive women.

Obama was hosting players from the Phoenix Mercury, champions of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and he took the opportunity to compare his home life to professional women’s hoops.

“I live with three tall, good-looking women,” he told the team, “who are quite competitive and push me around under the boards all the time.”

Obama’s two daughters, Sasha and Malia, both play basketball, and the president thanked the Mercury players for helping to show young women around the world the benefits of sports.

After the ceremony, the players held a basketball clinic as part of first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative to combat childhood obesity.
