Michelle Obama holds a White House dress rehearsal

By Christina Wilkie - 07/19/10 07:34 PM ET

President Obama is “harmless,” first lady Michelle Obama reassured students at the White House on Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Obama was addressing kids from the Joy of Motion Dance Center and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts during a dress rehearsal for Monday evening’s taping of “In Performance at the White House: The Best of Broadway,” where they would be performing for the president alongside Broadway stars.

“[His seat’s going to] be right around there, all right?” Michelle Obama said to the audience of middle and high school students, many of whom were very curious about just where the president would be sitting.

Noting the nerves in the room, the first lady reassured the teens, “He’s harmless. Just keep moving.”

Mrs. Obama told the crowd that all the members of the first family would be in attendance, except first dog Bo, because he “barks too much.”
