Sen. Al Franken doesn’t fly first class

By Alex Muller - 08/02/10 07:29 PM ET

There are plenty of transportation privileges afforded to senators, so if you see a member of the upper chamber on your flight, chances are they’ll be in the front of the plane. But not Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).

Franken was spotted near the back of his direct flight from Minneapolis to Washington, D.C., on Monday, sitting in a coach-class window seat like a regular guy.

The lawmaker was wearing his trademark glasses, a blue dress shirt and a blazer (no airplane tracksuit for Franken). According to a source, Franken snoozed for most of the flight.

Passengers sitting around him didn’t make a big deal about the VIP, and neither did the airline employees. Said a fellow traveler, “I don’t know if he wasn’t recognized or if Minnesotans are just too polite.”
