President Obama stars in ‘The More You Know’ PSA

By Christina Wilkie - 09/27/10 06:02 PM ET

President Obama taped a segment for NBC’s famed “The More You Know” public-service campaign on Monday to emphasize parental involvement in education.

Obama taped the 30-second spot, which will begin airing this week, in coordination with NBC’s “Education Nation” initiative.

“We all know that we can have the best schools and the most dedicated teachers in the world. But it won’t be enough unless we fill our responsibilities as parents,” Obama says in the ad. “This year, let’s do our best, so our kids can do their best.”

Obama is the third sitting president to participate in the PSA program, according to NBC. President Bill Clinton taped a message emphasizing the use of designated drivers, while President George H.W. Bush recorded one on volunteerism.

First ladies Michelle Obama and Laura Bush have also taped “The More You Know” messages.
