Obama’s cars set the pace for speeding drivers on country road

Speeding drivers on Virginia’s rural Route 29 on Friday afternoon were all too happy to tail President Obama’s motorcade vehicles, apparently unaware that the motorcade does not need to abide by normal traffic laws.
The unmarked six-vehicle convoy was missing Obama, who flew in later that day to attend a rally for Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.), but at speeds topping 20 mph over the limit of 60 mph, the black cars hauling down the four-lane road clearly looked like good “cover” to drivers.
Such a scene would be unimaginable in downtown Washington, where residents recognize black Secret Service SUVs and leave a wide berth for them on the city streets.
But 90 miles south of the nation’s capital, there was no such deference. As the convoy neared Charlottesville at about 2:30 p.m. on a clear fall day, a dozen cars could be seen speeding at the Secret Service-set “pace,” never passing the SUVs, but occasionally switching lanes to stay close to them.
