Durbin to play himself in Hollywood movie

By Christina Wilkie - 11/09/10 08:56 PM ET

Coming soon to a movie theater near you: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who makes his Hollywood debut on Tuesday in Chicago.

According to The Associated Press, Durbin will play himself in the film “Contagion,” directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh. The film is about a deadly airborne virus.

Alongside Durbin are a cast of A-list actors, including Matt Damon, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet.

Durbin will film his scene with Fishburne in a mock Senate hearing room, and the lawmaker will have one line of dialogue.

On Monday he told the AP that he is “a little nervous,” but that the hundreds of hours he has logged appearing on C-SPAN have gone far toward preparing him for his star turn.
