House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) is most looking forward to two things after he retires from Congress at the end of this year: Playing his harmonica and drinking more gin and tonics.
An avid blues harmonica player, Obey told CNN’s Candy Crowley on Sunday that in addition to “playing more music,” he looks forward to “increasing my — my allotment of gin and tonics from time to time.”
Crowley laughed, “Then we’ll come see you,” referring to her CNN camera team.
But the lawmaker appearing alongside Obey, retiring Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), didn’t think that was such a good idea. “I’ll stay away from the gin and tonics,” Dorgan quipped, prompting laughter from Obey and Crowley.
As for what Dorgan is most looking forward to after he leaves office? Having “more time to do interesting things,” he said.
